JIVAMUKTI YOGA CLASSES WITH LILY SIELAF

DO YOU KNOW ABOUT JIVAMUKTI YOGA?

Jivamukti Yoga is a type of active vinyasa yoga that combines asanas (postures) and movements very consciously with breathing, meditation, chanting mantras, studying philosophy, music, and relaxation. The Jivamukti Yoga method was founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1986 in New York with the purpose of basing it on traditional yoga teachings and adapting them to the modern lifestyle. It is considered a path to obtaining liberation of the body and mind through compassion for all beings. Jivamukti Yoga is based on five pillars: Ahimsa – non-harming, Bhakti – devotion, Shastra – study of ancient teachings, Nada – study of sound, and Dhyana – meditation. Supported by the vibrations of the harmonium, an Indian instrument, ancient sacred mantras and texts like the Patanjali Sutras are chanted. The focus of the month explores how ancient teachings can be applied to current issues of modern life and how we can face the challenges of modern society, such as climate change or injustices related to human and animal rights. The Jivamuktas, liberated souls, are considered spiritual activists against these injustices. Today, there are Jivamukti centers all over the world. In Mallorca, you can practice with Lily at S’Espai6, Sóller.

THE ART OF TEACHING JIVAMUKTI YOGA

Adjustments and alignments are based on the traditional teachings of Ashtanga Yoga, the eight-limbed path: YAMA, NIYAMA, PRANAYAMA, PRATYAHARA, DHARANA, DHYANA, SAMADHI. It is a demanding method that works on the strength and healing of the body, as well as the breath and nervous system. It has a sequence of postures designed to develop our muscles, increase our flexibility, and improve the functioning of our internal organs. Ashtanga Yoga, practiced with proper breathing, purifies the physical, mental, and emotional body.

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic form of yoga that considers a flexible and healthy body as the foundation for spiritual development. Benefits are achieved through dynamic exercises (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), and meditation. It differs from other forms of yoga by using vinyasa (synchronization of breath with movement), ujjayi breathing (a pranayama), bandhas (energy locks), and drishtis (gaze points) in combination with the practice of asanas (postures). These elements help the practitioner concentrate and increase energy throughout the practice.

THE TEACHER

Yoga teacher Lily was born and raised on the beautiful island of Mallorca, Spain. She traveled the world and lived in many places, but the island was always in her heart, so she decided to return in 2018. In 2013, Lily discovered the healing power of yoga at the Jivamukti Yoga school in Munich, Germany, while she was suffering from severe pain due to a twisted spine (scoliosis). Since then, her yoga practice has become a part of her life and is always there as a safe haven. With the desire to help others as yoga had helped her, she trained with Olga Oskorbina at Jivamukti Yoga Barcelona and became a certified Jivamukti Yoga 375H teacher after her training with Rima Rabbath and Jules Febre in India. Besides practicing yoga, she loves being in nature, following a sustainable lifestyle, and cooking for family and friends. Her mantra: Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu: may all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of our lives contribute in some way to that happiness and freedom for all.
